The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) performed ‘Gopuja’ as part of the ‘Mana Gudi - Gopuja’ programme at Goshala near Kanaka Durga temple in the city on Friday. The puja was performed on the occasion of Kanuma, the third day of Sankranti. Speaking on the occasion, Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad vice-president BV Bala Koteswara Rao said that Gopuja was organised at 258 places in the State to enlighten the present generation about the prominence of cows in Hinduism. Gopuja was also organised at Satyanarayanapuram and Payakapuram in the city and at 16 other places in Krishna district.

Vijayawada Gosamrakshana Sangham president Kamal Bang said that cows were scared for Hindus as it was worshipped as Kamadhenu. “On the third day of the harvesting festival, farmers focus on the well-being of livestock. They decorate bulls and worship cows, attributing their prosperity to the livestock.”

TTD district coordinator N Shivaji, Gosamrakshana Sangham vice-president K Murali Krishna and others were present.
