Yes, residents’ enroute are certainly delighted over the facelift and the pace at which the drive is taken up, which otherwise evades them all through the year. But the drive has not gone down too well with residents in Lothkunta this time around. President Pranab Mukherjee will stay at his official residence from June 29 to July 8.

As part of the arrangements, temporary barricades have been erected for the first time with wire meshes from Ambedkar Statue at Lothkunta to Malla Reddy Colony on both sides of the road. Earlier, the fencing was restricted to the railway bridge. This has irked shopkeepers as customers are unable to park their vehicles or enter the stores.


“We were shocked that these barricades have come up which was previously not part of the practice during the President’s visit. When we protested, Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) authorities and Traffic Police responded that they had placed the barricades on the request of Ministry of Defence authorities.

This will impact our business a lot for the next three weeks,” laments Muthayalu, a shopkeeper.“There are more than 250 shops on the stretch. Security is essential for the first citizen of the country but not at the cost of others,” he added.
