The Almond Board of California organised a press meet at Hotel Taj Deccan on Tuesday to showcase the importance of eating almonds on a daily basis.

“Many studies suggest that almonds may be helpful to lower blood sugar levels after eating a high starch meal. A study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming 43 grams of dry roasted and lightly salted almonds every day reduced hunger and improved dietary Vitamin E and monounsaturated fat intake without increasing body weight.

Almonds are good for the heart. It has the potential to help lower total and LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol when included in the healthy diet. Almonds have been shown to reduce levels of heart-damaging inflammation,” Sheela Krishnaswamy, President, Indian Dietetic Association and Wellness Consultant said.

“Indians are becoming more conscious about their health and have started paying more attention to the meals they prepare or serve to their family but snack time is still overlooked. We tend to eat unhealthy ‘in-between-meal’ snacks, which can potentially negate the hard work put into our health otherwise.

Hence, we encourage snacking smart with almonds as a great way to start leading a healthier lifestyle. Almonds are also a natural source of many essential nutrients, including protein and healthy fats, making them a nutrient-rich snack that can help keep you going throughout the day,” Sheela adds.

Mohammed Khaja Yusufuddin, Personal Training Consultant, Hyderabad, said: “Fitness and healthy diet must go hand in hand. In addition to working out every day, it is essential to eat right.

Your daily intake must include food items that are rich in essential nutrients. Incorporating small changes in your life like eating a handful of almonds every day and working out regularly will help you maintain a healthy life.

In fact, almonds are a source of many important nutrients. Whether at home or work, a handful of (30 grams or 23 almonds) these nuts are a convenient snack that can be eaten anywhere, any time of the day and through the year.”
