In a first, the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) will be unveiling the tallest national flag among the 37 Council of Scientific &Industrial Research (CSIR) institutes spread across the country. The flag will be hoisted on a 100-foot-high pole specially made by experts from Silvassa.

In a first, the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) will be unveiling the tallest national flag among the 37 Council of Scientific &Industrial Research (CSIR) institutes spread across the country. The flag will be hoisted on a 100-foot-high pole specially made by experts from Silvassa.

The 20X30 ft flag has been made to order by specialists from Silvassa. A senior official of IICT said that the approvals came in April and the pole is almost ready.

Wind tests have already been conducted and the flag was able to withstand strong winds. An official, who is in the know of matters, said that the tests have been successful bringing great relief to the management.

The Rs 20 lakh cost for the pole was used from the internal funds of IICT. According to sources, the director, Dr S Chandrasekhar was keen that the pole set up by August 15 and all the work was done at breakneck speed.

The IICT has been one among the premier institutes under CSIR in the country and has been in the news for path breaking research. The 100-foot-pole would also bring IICT into focus and enhance its reputation opined a senior scientist.
