Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad (UoH), is planning to build a 40,000 square feet amenities centre for students with a number of modern facilities at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore. The centre would connect both the north and south campuses of the UoH, which is also known as Hyderabad Central University.

"This would be a first of its kind in any public funded universities in India," UoH said in a statement. It would bring all student-related activities under one umbrella.

The facilities proposed to be offered to students will have activities relating to Dean of Students' Welfare, Chief Warden, Placement Cell and Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH). In addition, a common pool infrastructure will be available also.

The centre, to be built with the support of the HRD Ministry and UGC under the XII Plan, would also house the alumni cell, students' counseling centre, health insurance facility, auditorium, students centre, reading room, students union office, open air auditorium and a food court among others.

"It is a dream project that would primarily benefit students and at the same time will provide an ambiance for the campus fraternity at a serene location," the varsity's vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile said. Last year, the university had record placements with more than 275 students being placed in 67 companies, the statement added.
