A workshop on advanced ceramic processing and fabrication

International Advanced Research Centre (ARCI), along with Indian Ceramic Society (ICS), Hyderabad chapter has organised a one-day workshop on “Advanced Ceramic Processing and Fabrication” at ARCI on December 12.

The workshop was a curtain raiser for the International Conference (CGREI-2016) being organised during the annual session of Indian Ceramic Society, AIPMA and IIC from December13 to 15.

The event was inaugurated by Dr G Padmanabham, Director, ARCI and in his inaugural speech he highlighted the importance of ceramic processing, cutting edge ceramic technologies and their diverse applications in everyday life.

He mentioned about several industrially relevant ceramic technologies developed at ARCI such as ceramic honeycombs, transparent ceramics, structural ceramics and the innovative products made from these.

Amit K De, President, Indian Ceramic Society, Dr Chandresh Agarwal, AR Raju from Indian Ceramic Society Hyderabad chapter and Dr Roy Johnson Associate Director, ARCI spoke on the occasion about the unique structural and functional properties of ceramics and the demanding applications they are able to meet.

The workshop is a unique platform for providing exposure as the concept and theory along with hands-on practical demonstrations on advanced shaping techniques.

Scientists of ARCI delivered lectures followed by live demonstrations.

Demonstrations were carried out on pressure slip casting of advanced ceramics, shaping of non-oxide ceramics, Spark Plasma Sintering of nanostructured ceramics and coatings.

Further, eminent industrialists also shared their experience on the technology transfer and commercialisation of ceramics technologies.

Workshop provided the participants a real-time exposure on advanced ceramic products and fabrication technologies.

There was an overwhelming response from academia and industries with more than 100 participants from all over the country and overseas.
