Kamareddy: Beedi workers will take out a huge rally to the Collectorate under the aegis of the Telangana Progressive Beedi Workers Union, an affiliate of the International Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) on Thursday demanding the State government to solve their long pending problems.

Speaking to the media at the local IFTU office in the town on Tuesday, district TPBWU general secretary B Raju said that their payments should be given in cash and not through the digital mode or online.

Raju said that they were organising the ‘Chalo Collectorate’ programme to press for their demands as they were denied justice earlier and were put to lot of hardships.

As such, the government should take remedial measures, he added. He appealed to all the beedi workers to participate in the programme and make it a grand success.

He said that it was not proper on the part of the Central and State government to make the payments through the digital mode as they would be put to loss. He said that they were not used to it yet.

The district TPBWA leader said that there were many discrepancies in the appointment letters given to the beedi workers.

There were errors in typing the names, caste, date of birth, provident fund numbers, Aadhaar card numbers and these have to be rectified. Otherwise, there would be problems in disbursing salaries, he added.

Raju said that that the people were put to lot of hardships after the demonetisation of the high valued Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes and criticised Prime Minister for taking such a thoughtless decision. People were facing difficulties in getting cash and small change.

Small traders, agricultural labourers and the salaried class were badly hit, he lamented. He said that even afte3r standing in the queue for hours at the ATM centres, many people had to return disappointed as there was no cash.

The PDBWA leader said there were not enough banks and ATM centres in the rural areas and wondered as to how they could get money for their daily needs.

That is why the beedi workers should be paid in cash, he added. State president Vanamala Krishna, general secretary V Narendra and others were present.
