Hanamkonda: Telangana JAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram asked the State government to create new zones in recruiting and posting government employees instead of abolishing the zonal system.

In the backdrop of creation of new districts the government should create five or six new zones in the place of existing two zones in the State. It could facilitate the locals and allows a meaningful competition in job recruitments, he suggested.

Kodandaram participated in a round table meeting on zonal system organised by Telangana Lecturers Forum (TLF) in Hanamkonda on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, he objected the State government’s decision to scrap the existing zonal system and replace it with a new system of district and state cadres.

At some level there should be zonal level recruitments. There must be a zonal system of recruitment alongside the district-level recruitment.

Making State-level recruitment could lead to danger of causing injustice to some areas as many districts were still backward.

The government should not act in haste in abolishing the zonal system. Ensuring local reservations would help the job seekers in a particular area to get job in that place and it would also help to create more jobs for the locals.

It should come up with a comprehensive study and action plan to tide over the social and economic imbalances. Talks should be held with all stakeholders and holding consultations with a single employees union would not suffice, Kodandaram noted.

People’s Organisations JAC convener Prof K Venkata Narayana, BJP leaders V Sriramulu, Dr K Vijayalakshmi, Telangana Praja Front leader B Rama Devi, KU SC/ST Employees Association leader Pulla Srinivas, TDP leader E Mallesham, BC JAC leader Prof K Murali Manohar, TLF leader K Venkata Swamy and others spoke at the round table meeting.
