One of the oldest photography organisations of Hyderabad organised a photo exhibition with sole interest of bring together both the new and old on the same platform

Andhra Pradesh Photographic Society (APPS) organised a five day photography exhibition titled ‘ APPS Galleria 2013’ at State Art Gallery, Madhapur where 42 members of the organisation showcased their work. The exhibition played host to 122 photographs, that explored various genres like, wildlife, city life, portrait, macro and travel photography. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chandana Khan, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Tourism and Cultural affairs, AP. This exhibition will be open to people till 6th August.

APPS started its journey in 1958 by Raja Tryambaka Raj, who with some of his friends took this step to promote the art and science of photography. With the passage of time there has been development in technology and a rift was created between old school photographer and young generation. The cause of the rift is due to the use of techniques. While experienced photo artistes prefer to shoot on a film camera, the young generation is familiar with its digital version. APPS is trying to bridge this gap by conducting several workshops.

School“Photography is a visual art form in which art and science merge together. When young enthusiasts enter the field of photography they do not possess knowledge of composition, capturing aesthetic beauty and other visual senses but only have the ability to press the shutter button ; film camera users are not familiar with the use of photoshop and other softwares. So our purpose is to make them understand the balance of both- science and aesthetic side of the art form,” said Satya Prasad Yachendra, president, APPS. Talking about the importance of holding such an exhibition he added, “All participating members have the opportunity to print their photo in this exhibition. It helps them understand the difference between on screen and hard copy of photos while changing their medium from on-screen to print.”
