Acknowledged as the country’s biggest all-woman run held as part of breast cancer awareness, the hugely popular SBI Pinkathon made its debut at People’s Plaza on Sunday. There was an enthusiastic turnout with over 6,000 women participating in the run-which featured 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km categories.

There was an enthusiastic turnout with over 6,000 women participating in the run-which featured 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km categories. Flagging off the run was actor and Pinkathon founder Milind Soman.

Also gracing the run were Dr Raghuram, CEO of Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, blade-runner Kiran Kanojia, Radio Mirchi RJ Bhargavi, SBI Hyderabad Circle CGM Sasi Kumar and leader of the Cancer Survivor Squad Dharini. A touching scene to the noble cause came when 10 cancer survivors and 20 visually-impaired girls apart from 20 hearing and speech impaired girls, participated across all categories.

Commenting on the success of run Milind Soman said, “Hyderabad has shown us the kind of support that reiterates the nation’s want for sowing the seeds of change. SBI Pinkathon is much more than one more marathon. It is the beginning of a movement carried forward by a growing community of empowered women across India, who share a belief that a healthy coexistence begins when women are empowered in its truest sense. Later, the winners were felicitated as were cancer survivors and the special ones who braved the odds to complete the run despite physical handicaps.
