The South Central Railway (SCR) would be taking up the elimination of Unmanned Level Crossings (ULCs) earnestly. 168 unmanned level crossings were eliminated last year and the target for the next financial year is to eliminate another 250 said P K Srivastava at the inauguration of the 60th Railway week celebrations.

There are 473 unmanned level crossings left and SCR plans to eliminate all ULCs by 2017.

The general manager also highlighted the zone’s performance; he said that the passenger earnings as well as freight earnings increased during the last year. Buoyed by increase in freight load, signifying an increase of 9 per cent and 26 per cent increase in freight earnings as against an average of four per cent in other zones and the apportioned earnings were Rs 15395 crore for the fiscal 2014-15, up by 18.6 per cent over the previous financial year earnings of Rs 12980 helped the zone become one of the best performing zones in the country informed the general manager.

AP express to be renamed within a week The much awaited renaming of the AP Express to Telangana Express would be announced within a week said P K Srivastava. The demand for renaming the train has been made ever since the new state of Telangana was formed. It is learnt that the Railway minister has given a nod and an announcement to this effect would be made soon.
