As on Saturday, before the city was inundated by the rains, the Osmansagar only had water stock of 22 days and the water level stood at 1,759 feet. On Wednesday, the water levels shot up to 1,790 feet and the stock currently stands at 34 days.

The unseasonal rains in the past few days have come as a boon to the city which was facing acute water shortage. As on Saturday, before the city was inundated by the rains, the Osmansagar only had water stock of 22 days and the water level stood at 1,759 feet. On Wednesday, the water levels shot up to 1,790 feet and the stock currently stands at 34 days. The case is similar with Himayatsagar where the stock has risen by 4 days.

“The pumping of water from the lakes will begin in 10 days as pipeworks are currently being laid. This will in addition to the water which will be pumped through the Krishna Phase III,” said a senior official from HMWS&SB. Currently, areas like Quthbullapur, Alwal and Kapra get water once every four or five days and the quantity of water supplied haven’t changed over the past decade. This scenario is likely to change in a week from now thanks to the Krishna Phase III. “Once the pipelines are laid in a week or so, water will be pumped every alternate day,” added the official.
