The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to be more effective in addressing grievances on an immediate basis. The corporation will soon deploy 12 vehicles across the city twice a day to receive complaints of the citizens. The initiative will be the first of its kind in the country. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and City Police Commissioner M Mahendar Reddy held a review meeting with regard to implementation of advanced citizens’ redressal system in the GHMC limits.

Somesh Kumar said that four high definition cameras would be mounted on top of the vehicle to provide a 360 degree panoramic coverage. “The existing system for sorting out the grievances is lagging behind and due to lack of coordination. But with the implementation of this system the grievances can be sorted out on priority at the earliest,” he said.

HD cameras mounted on the vehicles will help the authorites monitor civic issues

“The project would allow the GHMC Commissioner and other senior officials to closely monitor civic issues such as garbage collection, manhole coverage, streetlights falls, stray dog menace, public toilets, dead animals, roads and pot holes, public encroachments, illegal constructions amongst a host of services, analytics are being implemented to automate identification of service delivery issues along with photo and video evidence of all such instances,” Somesh Kumar added.

The GHMC would set up a mini-command centre with a task force to monitor live and recorded footage and also initiate coordination and action to manage any lapses identified and this type of system implemented the system will enable GHMC to provide citizens with better service delivery. The civic body is also planning to launch a smart city mobile application to enable citizens to report all such instances using their smartphones as well as using crowd sourcing.
