Carnatic singer Pantula Rama founded a music movement along with her husband, an eminent Tabla artiste MSN Murthy. The movement ‘PARA – the Supreme’ began with an objective to create awareness of music, an open attitude towards appreciation of music of all genres, inspiring the spirit of oneness, practice of meditation and aiming for supreme consciousness through all the above began in Visakhapatnam with two events until now – Swachh Swar and Samarpan.

The first one, a two-day event that had 300 people participating was in a way initiation into the universal notes, a concept that eventually found a permanent space in the future events – ‘Saptaswara’, “It aims to enable the participants to learn the notes and variations. The participants are made to practice the seven notes, and later are taught a special composition that uses the notes, and then there is a meditation session which is an option for the participants,” shares Pantula Rama.

“Quality of the programme is our motto. And, since it is a movement that we wish to spread, we can associate and collaborate with any organisation. There is no age, religion, caste or any barrier – anybody can participate, and it is a free for all event,” she adds. The concepts that PARA comes up with for its events are musically scintillating, educative and enjoyable at the same time.

During the second event, also held in Vizag - ‘Samarpan’ that began with Swachh Swar, had participants giving a 5-8 minutes presentation on any kind or aspect of music that they liked – classical, film, EDM, light music, theory of music, music therapy, and had participants even from Hyderabad.

Encouraged by the response, Pantula Rama brings PARA to Hyderabad on August 6. The event is going to be held at Gandhi Sathabdi Bhawan, Durgabai Deshmukh Mahila Sabha, near OU Campus. The day-long event that will begin at 10.30 am and goes on till 8pm is titled ‘Spandana’.
