On the occasion of ‘World Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Day, NIMS conducted an awareness programme at its premises on Friday. To celebrate 9/22 (September 22) Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patient organisations in 30 countries marked the date as World CML Day.

On the occasion of ‘World Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Day, NIMS conducted an awareness programme at its premises on Friday. To celebrate 9/22 (September 22) Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patient organisations in 30 countries marked the date as World CML Day.

The number 9/22 represents the chromosomal translocation between 9 and 22 (Philadelphia Chromosome). Following the motto "All united, all unique" the aim is to raise public awareness about CML and provide information on the journey of CML patients, their needs and challenges.

“If CML patients take medicine regularly with regular monitoring this cancer can be controlled successfully with the hope of a cure in the near future,” said Dr Sadashivudu Gundeti, Additional Professor, NIMS hospital.

Dr Manohar Director informed that he is going to establish Central Research Lab in the Millennium Block, where the RT PCR BCR-ABL test for all CML patients can be done in the Institute at an affordable cost.

Dr Subash Koul, Dean; Dr Dilip Kumar, Executive Registrar, MS; Dr Satyanarayana, Medical superintendent; Dr Stalin Chowdary; Dr Ashok Kumar as well as other staff members, patients and their relatives attended the event.
