Staging socio-political issues

Manch Theatre Group staged a play ‘Adugu’ recently at Ravindra Bharathi. The play Adugu was directed by Harsha Chakilam who was also one of the actors who donned the role of a terrorist. It was an intense drama where a couple of terrorists kidnap a bunch of travellers and demand the government to release their leader.

In the course of time, terrorists converse with everyone and situation turns worse. The terrorists intimidate passengers and some rhetorical arguments happen between them. During their conversation, they show how terrorists, as well as most of the passengers, are dissatisfied with the current system of the country.

In the play, the passengers explain how their lives are affected by Indian democratic policies. At the end of the play, director conveys all the answers through the character with well-written dialogues. Some of the socio-political sensitive issues like reservation system, inequalities, security for women, indefinite politics, corruption, effects of religion, unrefined social posts in social networking and terrorism are dealt sensitively with suitable answers.

The play justified the storyline ‘Intolerance referred to internal terrorism which is equally as dangerous as external terrorism’. All the actors of the play are techies and mesmerised the audience with their flawless effort. The background music and perfect costumes made the play even more entertaining. Through the play, the director shows us clearly that everyone from the abductees were vexed with irregularities that are happening in the society.
