Santosh Nagar: Fitness freaks in the parts of Old City finds Ramzan as an opportunity to become fit, as working out during the holy month would help not only lose fat but also get in a good shape.

While fasting for nearly 15 hours, those who love to maintain their body in shape have changed their timings and now workout after breaking fast. Tariq Omer, a student who generally works out during the day time in normal days has now shifted his timings to night hours, as he is fasting during the day. After breaking his fast, Omer rushes to the nearby MFC gym and begins workout with the help of coaches present. “I believe that Ramzan is the best time to shed unwanted flab on the body and shape it with regular workout. With good meal after Iftar and avoiding junk during the entire month I hope to develop muscular body,” he said.

As protein rich food is recommended for shaping the body, the gym goers consume fruits like water melon, pineapple, grapes, oranges besides drinking 1 litre of water with lemon to increase water electrolytes and the level of micro nutrients in the body.

“The meal followed by iftar should be a protein and carbohydrates rich, which are found in chicken, eggs, fish, beef or turkey, while carbs are found in brown rice or oats and olive oil would be best for consumption,” says Murtuza Mohsin, a coach at MFC Gym and winner of Mr Telangana 2017.

Murtuza explains that since the diet is under control, the digestion process would be in good condition for almost everyone, lest those who are fasting resist eating junk food. “We recommend people for short work of 45mins at night after taking meal. As part of this workout heavy weights should be avoided and four times in a week is appreciated,” he said.

Mustafa Mohsin Ali, a coach of Fitness Gym and runner up in Muscle mania Bodybuilding competition suggests cardio exercise. “Eating nothing for 14 hours while fasting and after eating a clean diet your body doesn't get enough calories to work out like normal days. Hence, I recommend cardio exercise which will help burn extra fat in the body,” he says.
