Vanasthalipuram: Emulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s walking track which appeared in a video released on International Yoga Day, a park in East Zone is gearing up with the same walking track at Sachivalayanagar Park in Vanasthalipuram.

The 20-year-old park is now gaining popularity with each passing day as people not only from nearby areas but also from faraway places are visiting it. Shekar, a sports enthusiast says, “As soon as I came to know about the unique circular walking track, I visited the park and experienced the track. It was a life changing experience, especially to walk on sand and stones which end by splashing in water.”

Revathy, another morning walker said, “The walking track not only has health benefits but also takes one back to one’s childhood. Walking barefoot has its advantages and also brings back memories of olden days when we played in mud with gay abandon.” Speaking to The Hans India, G Yugandhar, deputy director urban bio diversity wing, GHMC says, “After looking at the walking track which inspired us we planned for a Yoga tree at Sachivalayanagar Park. The work started a month ago and it’s open for public now, budget of Rs 1lakh is provided for the walking track”.

The park attracts close to 1,000 visitors daily and is open from 5 a.m. to 12.p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Locals say that the park is becoming popular after the video went viral. “This tree gives us positive energy. There is 50 meters walking circle and after 6 meters the track would be changing and walkers should walk barefoot. Walking 45 minutes is more enough for a day to keep you fit and healthy”, he added.

He further added, “We planted lemon grass around the Buddha then in outer circle which is full of Tulasi plants and the walking track has water, stones, pebbles, wood scrap, sand, red and black soil. Locals says, “We feel positive energy around the tree and walkers increased after installing the yoga tree in the park and our health problems has reduced by this tree. People from other colonies are also visiting the park daily to put them healthy”. Officials say that they are planning to replicate the idea in other parks in the zone as well.
