Hyderabad: Police on Monday foiled an attempt to take a peace rally of Nizam College students led by Madiga Student Federation.
About 150 students representing Bahujana Student Federation, Girijana Vidhyarthi Sangam, TGVP, and TVV had tried to take a peace rally in solidarity for the ‘Chalo Osmania’ (Yudha Bheri) rally scheduled for September 21, but they were stopped by the police.
With the police denying permission for taking out the rally, a scuffle broke out between both the groups at the entrance of Nizam College. Subsequently, police arrested 17 students and shifted them to Gandhinagar police station and were later released. MSF Nizam College unit president Praveen Kumar said the peace rally was being organised to extend support to ‘Yudha Beri’ which is being organised to protest against providing UT status to Hyderabad.
