Hyderabad: The four-headed Khairatabad Ganesh, tallest of all the idols installed in the city was immersed in Hussain Sagar lake around 2 pm on Thursday. The task was carried out by engaging a special crane number 6 located on NTR Marg. The operation preceded a 12-hour long massive religious procession. Earlier, Central Zone police commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy observed special prayers before commencement of the procession at 2 am.
The NTR Marg witnessed a huge presence of the devout turn up for the procession. As a result, the procession traversed at a slow pace to designated spot. A special crane was used to carry the idol measuring 60- foot length, 14-foot width and weighing 160 tonnes. Volunteers, hundreds of policemen and traffic police played a vital role in a successful immersion of the idol.
