The Umanagar Residents Welfare Association in Begumpet has once again raised its voice against the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for not parting with the prize money of Rs 15 lakh. The colony had won the Best Colony Award in 2011 and has been pleading ever since for the prize money.

“Though our colony won the award in 2011, we haven’t received the prize money which also the case with colonies in four other zones. If the GHMC releases the funds, we can take up community development projects for the welfare of the residents,” said Captain Manohar Sharma, president of the colony.

The GHMC, under the aegis of Mayor B Kartika Reddy and MT Krishna Babu, had instituted the colony awards in 2011 to reward colony associations for maintaining cleanliness and improving infrastructure. The colony conducted their annual general body meeting on Sunday where a cultural programme titled ‘Interview’ was staged by the students of St. Francis College. It was a humourous take on behavior of students today towards development of the society.
