Margaret Thatcher passes away

London (PTI): Britain's first woman Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, known as the Iron Lady, passed away on Monday following a stroke at the age of 87. She had suffered poor health for several years. She was Conservative Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990. She will not be accorded a state funeral, in accordance with her own wishes, Downing Street said. She won general elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987. Thatcher's government privatised several state-owned industries. She was also in power when the UK went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands in 1982. He lost power in 1990 following the controversial Pole Tax her government had imposed on every British family.
