Wimbledon: A British artist has been commissioned to paint a rickshaw that will participate in a race across India in memory of Mark Shand, the late brother of the Duchess of Cornwall.
Wimbledon-based Emily Robson will work on the rickshaw along with other artists Divya Pasgon, Claire Robinson and Arati Devasher, the Wimbledon Guardian reported. She was chosen because her work involves the painting of fabric.
Robson was quoted as saying that the front of the rickshaw will boast of a painting of an elephant with her also speculating that it might be of Lord Ganesha.
Shand was the founder of charity organisation Elephant family, which works towards saving the endangered Asian elephant. The race hopes to raise funds for its efforts towards the same, with 20 rickshaws, which will grace the streets of London before being auctioned on June 11.
The race, which is scheduled to take place in November, will witness the participation of celebrity drivers like actress Susan Sarandon and models Yasmin and Amber Le Bon.
