State of emergency has been extended till May 26 by French National Assembly by 212 votes in favour, 31 opposed, and 3 abstaining. In the wake of Paris terror attacks in which 130 people died, the state of emergency empowered French authorities and police forces with larger and freer capacities.

More specifically, under l'etat d'urgence, it gives prefects of French departments and the national government the power to conduct house searches at any time, enforce house arrest and confiscate weapons, as well as set curfews, forbid mass assemblies and establish secure zones where people can be monitored.
