Karimnagar: District Collector Smita Sabharwal directed the concerned district officials to ensure that people get adequate quantities of drinking water during this summer. Speaking at a review meeting with the district officials and the Revenue Division Officers at the Collectorate here on Monday, she said people should not suffer on account of water scarcity.

The Collector said that the officials should hold discussions with the Mandal Praja Development Officers and Tahsildars and identify the villages facing water scarcity. Then, they should ensure that water was supplied through the Rural Water Supply scheme. She said that the RDOs should monitor the utilization of Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) and non-CRF relief funds in villages facing acute water shortage.

Smita Sabharwal said that water should be supplied through tankers in the rural areas and if there were any leakages in the pipelines, they should be repaired to prevent the wastage of water. Similarly, steps should be taken to prevent water pollution and the water should be purified through chlorination. She told the officials to inspect the mineral water plants.

Rural Water Supply Superintending Engineer E. Haribabu, Panchayat Raj superintending engineer Dasaradham, Zilla Parishad CEO Chakradhar Rao, DRDA project director Shankaraiah, DWMA project director Manohar and Rural Water Supply engineers were present on the occasion.
