Khammam: The honorary general secretary of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr B Srinivas Rao here on Sunday demanded the State government to take measures to tackle violence against medical professionals and para-medical staff in hospitals.

Speaking to the media here at the Press Club in the town, Dr Srinivas Rao said that the doctors affiliated to the IMA would stage a hunger strike across the country on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Monday demanding the government for the speedy implementation of Clinical Establishment Act.

He also demanded the government to take action against the health professionals and hospitals that were being run without taking membership in National Medical Council (NMC). He said that all the health services would be stopped from morning 6 AM to evening 6 PM in protest against attacks on doctors and on hospitals.

The government should also take necessary measures for their safety, he added. He urged all sections of people to extend their support and participate in large numbers in the one-day hunger strike that is going to be held at Dharna Chowk IMA District President Dr P Sandhya Rani, vice-president Dr P Adishankar Rao and Treasurer Dr Rajesh Garge were present on the occasion.
