Khammam: As per the orders from higher officials, every Friday mock drill will be conducted in schools, colleges and other public places to create awareness among people on how to prevent the fire accidents, said Fire Officer Kranthi Kumar here.

As part of it, the firemen conducted a mock drill here at Go-Gas godown in Raghunathapalem on Friday and gave tips to the warehouse organisers on how to prevent the fire accidents.

Speaking on the occasion, Kranthi Kumar said in recent times several fire accidents occurred due to leakage of gas from the cylinders. By taking precautionary measures, such accidents can be averted. “People must purchase ISI mark gas stoves, regulators and tubes.

And if any ruptures are found in the rubber tubes, they should immediately replace it with a new one,” suggested the fire officer.

He said there was a possibility of bursting of cylinder if the liquified gas present in it turns completely into gas. If the cylinder caught fire, one must act swiftly and turn off the flames with fire extinguishers or using a wet gunny bag, he added.

Whenever a fire accident occurs, people must convey the information immediately to the Fire department through the toll-free number 101 to prevent further damage of property and lives, advised the fire officer.

Leading Fireman Veera Reddy, Driver and Operator K Venkateshwarlu, Firemen Krishna Prasad and Kiran Kumar, Homeguard Prasad Rao and others were present.
