Hyderabad: Parents and medicine aspirants get ready to cough up more money for studying MBBS and Dental courses in Telangana from the next academic year. The Telangana government has revised the fee structure for the B category, which accounts for 35 per cent in all colleges, from Rs 2.4 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.


It also revised fee structure for the C category (15 per cent) seats to Rs 11 lakh from Rs 5.5 lakh. However, the government did not touch fee structure for A category seats which accounts to 50 per cent of the seats in all colleges. The new fee structure would be applicable for both unaided non-minority and minority colleges in the State.


To this effect, the government has also issued orders on Tuesday. Similarly, it also fixed fee for the dental colleges. There was no change in the fee for the A category seats. However, the government revised fee for B and C category seats in the unaided non-minority colleges to Rs 4 and Rs 5 lakh respectively.


While in the unaided minority colleges, B and C category seats cost Rs 2.7 lakh. With Medical Council of India (MCI) insisting on conducting examination for B category seats, the government has decided to hold the MCET for admissions under B category seats in the private colleges. According to the sources, the test would be held online for about 735 seats in private medical colleges and it would be implemented from the current academic year.


While the government has planned to conduct online test, but there is no clarity who would conduct the test, sources added. Earlier, the B category seats were filled through Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (Eamcet) counselling on merit basis.The MCET will not be conducted for C category seats where managements have free hands to sell the seats on the merit basis.
