Shabbir Ali loses status of LoP in Council

Hyderabad : Telangana State Legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud has cancelled the recognition of Congress MLC Mohammed Ali Shabbir as the Leader of Opposition in Council.

The orders were issued by Secretary to Telangana Legislature Dr. V. Narasimha Charyulu on Saturday.

The Congress party has lost the status of main opposition after four MLCs who defected to TRS were recognised as TRS members by the Council Chairman on Friday. In the 40-member council, at least 4 members are needed to get the status of opposition. Presently, the Congress has only two MLCs - Shabbir Ali and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and their term too would end in March next year.
