Raipur: Chhattisgarh is reeling under intense heat with day temperatures shooting up to 40 degree Celsius in parts of the state, prompting the authorities to change the timings of schools. In the state capital Raipur and various other cities, including Bilaspur and Rajnandagaon, the mercury has been soaring to 40 degrees Celsius or even above, as per the MeT department. In view of this, the School Education department has issued an order regarding change in timings for schools from tomorrow.

As per the order, all primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools which operate in single shift across the state from 7 AM to 11 AM till further notice, an education department official said today. The schools which run two shifts have been ordered to conduct lower classes (primary and middle) from 7 AM to 11 AM and senior classes (secondary and higher secondary) from 11 AM to 4 PM, he said. The timings of the Anganwadis (the government run women and child care centres) have also been changed and they will function from 8 AM till 11 AM, he added.

Meanwhile, an official of the Raipur-based Meteorological centre said the mercury soared to 40 degree Celsius and above in many parts of Chhattisgarh in the last couple of days. Today, the highest temperature of 42.9 degree Celsius was recorded in Bilaspur while Raipur was at 41 degree Celsius, he said. Dry weather is likely to prevail over Chhattisgarh for next three days, he said. The MeT department has also forecast a rise in temperature in the next few days.
