Chennai: A junior cricket team from Sri Lanka, which arrived here to participate in a private tournament, was sent back on Monday, owing to security concerns, senior police officials said.
The 16-member team, which arrived from Colombo was put up at an accommodation in the city. They were denied permission to participate in the four-day tournament that began on Monday.
Incidentally, in 2012, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had sent home a Sri Lankan soccer team from that country. Even Lankan cricketers stayed away from the IPL Chennai matches earlier.
