What is the secret behind the one-to-one meeting between YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday? Was it part of a desperate attempt of Jagan to disentangle himself from the CBI cases? So believe political observers.

After having refused an appointment barely a month-and-half ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Jagan and his MPs for twenty minutes and later had a one-on-one with Jagan for about 10 minutes. The Monday meeting took place a few days after the Enforcement Directorate attached assets of some of the accused in the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub and Ramky Pharma City CBI cases in which Jagan is accused number one.

But sources in the YSR Congress claimed that the BJP is warming up to them. On February 17, Jagan had led a team of his party MPs to Delhi to meet Modi, but the PM did not grant him an audience and the YSR Congress leader had to return after meeting Jaitley and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. YSR Congress claimed that it was the BJP, through some intermediaries of Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu that signaled that PM was willing to meet Jagan and also fixed the schedule

Ahead of the meeting Jagan had a sudden change of heart towards the agitation against the Pattiseema project. After having decided to join hands with the CPI and CPM in opposing the project, Jagan developed cold feet. Political analysts see the recent YSRC withdrawal of the no-confidence motion against AP speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao and the TDP government softening towards the YSRC MLAs is the evidence for the growing proximity between YSR Congress and BJP.

Jagan's contention that his meeting with the PM was not related to politics but state issues like special status, Polavaram etc has to be taken with a pinch of salt. This is not the first time that YSRC tried to win over BJP. TDP and BJP sources say that Jagan is striving to come clean on the CBI probe, though 11 charge sheets have been filed already.

With the BJP's allergy towards CBI well known, who knows what will happen.
