Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has made another impressive mark in Maharashtra politics. Contesting for the first time in Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections, the pro-Muslim outfit bagged 4 seats in the 122-member civic body, while making inroads in UP panchayat polls.

MIM candidates Tanzila Ayaz Maulvi and Seema Khan have been announced as winner from Govind Wadi (Ward No 34) and Kachore (Ward No 45), respectively. Two more candidates have also won in the polls.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party in the bitterly fought corporation polls bagging 52 seats. The BJP came second winning 42 seats.

The electoral performance of AIMIM grabs eyeballs since the veteran coalition of the Congress-NCP could secure only six seats, whereas a party which barely had its organizational presence in Mumbai has won 4.

In a significant development in UP panchayat polls, Owaisi's MIM won a seat in Azamgarh, the parliamentary constituency of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. Trends suggest that the MIM is also leading in some wards at other places.
