Imphal (Manipur): Festivals of Manipur showcase the cultural, social and religious aspirations of the communities living in the state. Ningol Chakouba is one such festival which is celebrated by inviting married daughters to the parental house for a grand feast. It is celebrated with great pomp and fervour by the Meiteis.

'Ningol' means married daughter and 'Chakouba' means invitation for a lunch at the mother's house.

On the occasion of the festival, married women visit their parents' home in traditional attire with their children.

A grand feast is organised for them and gifts are offered with blessing to the daughters by the parents.

It is an occasion to meet both family and friends

Reeni Devi, a married woman, said, "I feel so happy because on this occasion I get to meet my parents and all my friends. It's very good."

Naocha, a married woman, said, "I'm very happy because we eat together after a long time on this occasion."

To mark the festival, a Fish Fair cum Fish Crop Competition was organized by Fishery Department of Manipur at Khuman Lampak in Imphal.

More than 80 fish farmers participated in the event.

A large number of people visited the market to buy different varieties of fish.

Premlata, a customer, said, "Organising such a fair during this festival is very good because there are so many varieties of fish available at one place. We have more choices to buy fish."

Such festivals revive family ties and strengthen the bond of love and affection.
