Jaipur : People with disabilities would get a unique identity card within one and half years, which would be valid throughout the country and would help disabled get benefit of the welfare schemes, said Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot, while addressing Regional Editors Conference here on Tuesday.

A bill is likely to be introduced in the budget session to frame laws for transgender, said the Minister.

When asked about Rohit Vemulla case, Gehlot said the nissue should not be politicised, adding that the victim's family would get full justice and culprits would be punished.

Gehlot said the word 'Divyang' suggested by the Prime Minister would be replaced with 'Viklang'.

He told the participating editors that An Ambedkar International Study Center would be established to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The Minister for Social Justice said that five National Sports Centres would also be opened to promote disabled.
