Guwahati, March 9 : The Election Commission of India has modified some dates for the second phase of the general election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam for not to collide with the date of poll of Rajya Sabha in the state.

After receiving request from Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, the Commission had modified the date of notification for the second phase of Assam assembly poll as March 15 from the earlier notification date of March 14.

In a statement, the commission said that the new date of making nominations for the second phase has been scheduled as March 22 instead of March 21 and new date of scrutiny is scheduled as March 24.

The Commission vide its Press Note ECI/PN/16/2016, dated March 4, 2016 has announced General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, 2016 wherein the last date of making nominations for the second phase has been scheduled as March 21, 2016.

The Commission vide its Press Note ECI/PN/15/2016, dated February 24, 2016 has already announced Biennial Elections to the Council of States from six States including Assam for which, the date of poll is as March 21, 2016.

The Commission said in the statement that, the Commission has received request seeking modification of the schedule for the second phase of the General Election in Assam so that the date of poll of Biennial Election to the Council of States does not collide with said last date of making nominations.

On the due consideration of the matter, the Commission has decided to slightly modify some of the dates for the second phase of the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam whereby there is a change in the date of notification, last date of making nomination and date of scrutiny.
