Kalaburagi: The Karnataka government has taken precautionary measures to prevent bird flu after the outbreak H1N1 in a poultry farm in Molkera village in Humnabad Taluka of Bidar District.

The district administrations of Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgiri and Koppal are checking for cases of bird flu by undertaking a door-to-door search. Though Bidar district has no poultry farm, birds are reared in the district.

Since there have been no reports of bird flu from Kalaburagi district, the authorities have decided not to ban the sale of chicken and eggs.

Culling operations began on Tuesday night at a private poultry farm in Humnabad. A team of ‘community medicine department officers’ headed by Naveen Gupta visited the Molkera village on Tuesday to take stock of the situation.
Nearly 300 skilled members are engaged in the culling operation.
