Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Tathagata Roy on Friday rejected Chief Minister Nabam Tuki’s plea for deferring floor test slated for Saturday.

Roy, who recently took additional charge of Arunachal Pradesh after JP Rajkhowa went on medical leave, reinstated Tuki as Chief Minister and asked him to prove his majority in the House by July 16.

However, Speaker Nabam Rebia said it would not be possible for them to convene a session at such a short notice.

“There is an established system (for convening session). A letter has to come from the parliamentary affairs department and we will have to issue summons,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Tuki met Roy to seek postponement of the floor test by at least 10 days. He told reporters that he had sought time on the advice of legal experts. “I requested time for 10 days at least to prove my majority on the floor of the House.

Governor said he will consult with legal experts, take advice of the Advocate-General and decide appropriately,” Tuki said when asked about the Governor’s response.
