New Delhi: Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, here on Thursday, met his Cabinet colleagues, Radha Mohan Singh (Agriculture) and Santosh Kumar Gangwar (|Finance), to impress upon them the need to curb sale of spurious seeds in the two Telugu States and to seek increase in the cash circulation in banks, especially in the rural banks.

In his meeting with Radha Mohan Singh, Dattatreya reportedly sought a watch on the seed companies, particularly, the multinational ones to prevent any loss to farmers. Spurious seeds have been resulting in heavy losses to farmers who invested on them out of ignorance.

Urging the State Governments to ensure proper seed certification programme, Dattatreya said that he had asked the Centre to bring out an effective law to regulate seed sales in the country in consultation with the State Governments.

The Minister told the media that he had appealed to Santosh Kumar Gangwar to direct State Level Bankers' Committees' to ensure that the next round of cash release to the banks in the States would be used only for the benefit of farmers.

The RBI would be releasing Rs 1,700 crore on July 3 for Telangana, he said. So far, the RBI had released Rs 9,000 crore to Telangana. Telangana State would be needing Rs 20,000 crore more for the kharif season till October, he added.
