New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi launched his party’s 2019 election campaign at a public rally in the national capital on Sunday, insisting that the grand old party will return to power in the next general elections.

“Congress surpassed the expectations in the Gujarat assembly elections and you all will witness the change in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan where we will win followed by the 2019 general elections. The Congress workers will not leave the side of truth,” he said at the Jan Aakrosh Rally, his first in Delhi since taking over as the party chief.

Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a range of issues, accusing him of having double standards on corruption, messing up the economy, undermining democratic institutions and failing to provide safety for women. Rahul accused the Prime Minister of being "hollow" and speaking "lies" and said the BJP will be defeated also in Karnataka assembly polls.

He said the Prime Minister is silent over Union Minister Piyush Goyal's alleged sale of shares held in a privately-held company at nearly 1,000 times the face value. "Piyush Goyal becomes a minister and does not declare his company. Later he sells it for Rs 48 crore to a power company. It is first time a Power Minister has sold his company to a power company and Narendra Modi does not speak a word," Rahul Gandhi said.
