Nellore: Slogans in favour of united Andhra Pradesh rent the air in the district on Monday. The district is facing the heat of the Samikyandhra movement with people in large numbers from different strata of society joining to start a Sakalajanula samme from the midnight of Monday . Students and employee unions have intensified the movement gaining support from the NGOs too.

Dharnas, road blockades and bandhs have become the order of the day. The city is in the grip of the Samaikyandra movement and it has also spread to the other towns like Kavali, Gudur, Nayudupeta, Atmakur, Sullurpet, Udayagiri and Cover with people cutting across political parties participating with great enthusiasm.

Educational institutions in the district have been shut down and students are rallying on the streets chanting slogans in favour of united Andhra Pradesh. Even the eunuchs have joined the agitation to keep the state united and they have been playing a key role for the last two days. The students vent their ire against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the Congress Party and burnt the effigy of K. Chandrasekhara Rao after conducting his mock funeral.

The leaders of the Students-Joint Action Committee (JAC) lashed out at Narendra Modi for his speech in Hyderabad on Sunday favouring bifurcation of the state. Addressing a huge rally at the Gandhi statue centre in the city, JAC leaders Krishna Yadav, Prasad, and Jagan warned that they would obstruct the meetings of Modi in the South if he supports division of the state. They also came down heavily on BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu for not supporting Samaikyandra. They warned that they would expose the fraudulent deals of Venkaiah Naidu by which he minted hundreds of crores of rupees.

Meanwhile, differences between the Anam brothers were out in the open over the issue of division of the state with the younger brother Anam Jayakumar Reddy accusing his elder brothers Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy and MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy for throwing the values cherished by their father to the winds and selling themselves to Sonia Gandhi for power.

He demanded his brothers to quit their posts and join the Samaikyandhra movement. He warned them that the people would teach them a lesson if they continue to stick to power. Jayakumar Reddy also lashed out at the Telugu Desam Party President Chandrababu Naidu clamoring for financial packages to the Seemandhra region, instead of waging a struggle to keep the state united.

More than 50,000 employees are likely to join the Samaikyandhra movement from different government departments in the district and paralyze the administration. Ruling party MLAs and former MLAs have joined the movement. Nellore (Rural) MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy registered his protest in an innovative way by breaking into a kuchipudi dance of the gangam style at a meeting arranged by the Vidyarthi-JAC. He said that he was continuing as an MLA to vote against the Telangana Bill whenever it is introduced in the Assembly. In Kavali, a road show was organized by Vishnuvardhan Reddy in which 1500 people participated.
