Saluting womanhood. The month of March is also called Women’s March. The month has been internationally devoted to woman, her issues and for her empowerment.
The month of March is also called Women’s March. The month has been internationally devoted to woman, her issues and for her empowerment. The International Women's Day (IWD) would be celebrated on March 8. The month marks the time when women are recognised for their achievements without regard to divisions whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It has been the occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women. The city has always been at the helm when it comes to raising awareness and celebrating the aspect of womanhood. Several events have been lined up, for the entire month. Here’s an ode by Hyderabad to all the women in the city.
A ‘March’ of events for women
The seventh edition of Women’s March is here. Like every year Goethe Zentrum is celebrating Women’s March along with a few partners to create awareness of women’s issues, bring out different shades of womanhood in different ways and working towards equality and freedom. This year, University of Hyderabad, Alliance Francaise, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Moving Images and Goethe Zentrum, are hosting various events ranging from, music and theatre to Visual arts, films and discussions.
The month long event will start on March 3 with a photography exhibition on women followed by events like movie screening, panel discussions, health camps, et al. All of these would be presented, performed and celebrated by women.
Session on financial management for women
The Indian Women Network (IWN) AP, would be organising a series of events. A session on financial management for women has been planned at Tech Mahindra on March 3. The session would be addressed by Rashida Adenwala, founder partner, R&A Associates.
Women Cardiac Care 2014
Despite increasing awareness among physicians and women about cardiovascular disease risk, women are more likely to be undertreated and are more susceptible to complications from treatment. Keeping this in mind, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is hosting a programme on ‘Women Cardiac Care 2014 (WCC) on March 8.
The programme is meant for women of all ages. Whatever a woman’s age, she needs to take action to protect her heart. Heart disease can begin early, even in the teens and women in their 20s and 30s need to take action to reduce their risk of developing heart disease. Pregnancy related heart diseases require special attention. It's never too late to prevent and control the risk factors for heart disease, especially degenerative aortic valve diseases.
Youth Mahasabha
BITS-Pilani Hyderabad campus would organise a Youth Mahasabha on March 8 at Pearl '14. Some of the brightest minds of the country would join to discuss and formulate solutions to some of the toughest problems bothering women today. This would be the institution’s endeavor to emphasise that women are special.
All women cycling ride competition
‘Let's inspire change,’ would be the motto of Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) on Women’s Day. HBC would be organising an all women cycling ride cum competition. “Celebrate the beauty of being a woman by joining hands and pedaling away. Show the world that you are strong, healthy and fit. Let us strive to encourage cycling culture among Hyderabadi women,” said one of the organisers. The 10K ride cum competition will be held at the HBC Bike station in Gachibowli on March 8 between 7am-8am.
Panel discussion on women's health
A one hour panel discussion on women’s health will be broadcasted on Women’s Day in Doordarshan.
The panel discussion will focus on raising awareness about breast cancer. The high-profile panel will include Dr P Raghuram, CEO and director, Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases; Dr Ushalakshmi, his mother and Dr Lakshmi Ratna, gynecologist. Breast cancer survivors will be part of the discussion who will share their experiences. A Q&A session will be part of the discussion where several questions will be interspersed for the benefit of the viewers.
Club Run by Hyderabad Runners
An annual club run by Hyderabad Runners would be held on March 9 at the University Of Hyderabad. The runs have been categorised into 21k, 10k and 3k runs. For 21k and 10k, Rs. 400 would be charged while for the 3k run, Rs 200 would be charged.
