PV Narasimha Rao Remembered on His 93rd Birth Anniversary. Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao, more aptly known as PV Narasimha Rao, was born on the same day in 1921.

Hyderabad: Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao, more aptly known as PV Narasimha Rao, was born on the same day in 1921. He began his career as an advocate and later turned a politician who served as the tenth Prime Minister of India during the period 1991-1996. He is the first ever Prime Minister of India representing non Hindi speaking community. Till then all the Prime Ministers were from North India only.

PVN had led an important administration, managing a major economic transformation and several home incidents affecting national security of India. He held the Industries portfolio and was personally responsible for the dismantling of the Licence Raj as this came under the purview of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He is often referred to as the "Father of Indian Economic Reforms". His reforms were proven effective for the nation to lead in the path of progression and his succeeded prime ministers have strictly followed the footprints laid by PVN. Dr. Manmohan Singh, who later became the Prime Minister of India and hled the chair for 10 years had himself launched India's globalisation angle of the reforms that implemented the International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies to rescue the almost bankrupt nation from economic collapse with the mandate gained from PV Narasimha Rao.

PV Narasimha Rao was also referred to as Chanakya for his ability to steer tough economic and political legislation through the parliament at a time when he headed a minority government. He was a linguistic who could converse in as many as 17 languages.

Though he was a Telugu and hailed from erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, he didn’t receive the desired nobility from the state, after his demise. It was for the first time HMTV & the Hans India have taken an initiative and organised the PV Narasimha Rao Memorial Lecture which was anchored by none other than Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India. The second initiative has also come from HMTV & the Hans India and they organised the second memorial lecture on PV Narasimha Rao. This time the programmed was anchored by Gulam Nabi Azad, the then Union Minister.

It’s good to note that the first Telangana government took the initiative to hold the birth anniversary, officially on Saturday.
