BJP in for a stormy monsoon session. Storm clouds are gathering over the BJP-led NDA government much ahead of the monsoon session which is set to start from July 21.

Its leaders get tainted, give enough ammo to opposition

New Delhi: Storm clouds are gathering over the BJP-led NDA government much ahead of the monsoon session which is set to start from July 21. Even as the Opposition is sharpening its weapons against the BJP, the latter seems to have a penchant for handing over more with each passing day. The latest skeletons to tumble out are the alleged Rs 206 crore plus scam that has hit the Maha Government.

Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani, Vasundhara Raje and Pankaja Munde put BJP in tight spot

The allegation that Pankaja Munde cleared the rate contract proposal to buy certain requirements of the schools in the State at inflated prices has full potential of a full-scale war. Though, she has denied the same and claimed no irregularities, the AICC spokesperson, Ajay Maken, went ahead and demanded her resignation and a probe by a sitting High Court judge for her involvement in the Rs 206 crore scandal.

On the sidelines of this show, Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani's alleged false declaration (of educational qualifications), has landed her in soup with the Metropolitan court taking cognizance of the petition filed in this regard against her and calling for submission of evidence.

The moralistic stand taken by the BJP in the arrest of the AAP Minister, Jitender Singh Tomar, in fake certificates case does not make a fight-back any easier for the BJP in Irani's case. In fact, the BJP leaders have gone ahead and demanded verification of all educational qualifications of all the elected legislators of the Delhi Assembly numbering 70 in all.

The Lalit Modi scandal has just begun to grow bigger with the involvement of two party veterans, Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. The party went into a silent mode initially before gearing up to counter the opposition onslaught for resignations, but had to come out into the open to defend both by giving them a clean chit to tide over the crisis temporarily.

The BJP could fight back defending those involved in all these, even effectively, but the message it is sending is this: This Government could be no different from the Congress led UPA Government.

General feeling gaining ground here is that the leadership is not that competent to handle the team it has handpicked to deliver the goods, party circles admit. Dissenting voices within the party over several issues including the latest ones have already queered the pitch for the party.

The impunity with which some of the leaders are making unwarranted remarks or the silly ways of their defensive arguments is making the political observers wonder whether they are mature enough. If any, there would be enough ammunition for the Opposition to trouble the government during the monsoon session of the Parliament.
