mi2Mumbai (PTI): Bowlers capitalised on a brilliantshow by Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma to help Mumbai Indians thrash Delhi Daredevils by 44 runs in their IPL clash at the Wankhede stadium on Tuesday.

After Karthik (86) and Rohit (74) powered Mumbai to the 209/5, highest total of the tournament so far, bowlers put up a united effort to restrict Delhi to 165/9, securing a thumping victory for their team.

Earlier, Ricky Ponting took a stunning catch to send Unmukt Chand back on the first delivery of Delhi's innings.A Chand tried to loft Harbhajan through extra cover but was shocked by Ponting's brilliance.

Mitchell Johnson then sent back skipper Mahela Jayawardene to give Mumbai second success. Jayawardene's dismissal reduced Delhi to 13/2.

Mumbai pacer Mitchell Johnson got rid of danger man David Warner (61) while Kieron Pollard removed Jeevan Mendis (0) reduce Delhi Daredevils to 97/4 in their chase. Warner rescued Delhi from early setback and put them in hunt with his fiery show. However, he failed to make it big and fell just when the side wanted more of him.

Earlier, Dinesh Karthik smashed a 48-ball 86 while Rohit Sharma struck an unbeaten half-century as Mumbai Indians posted an imposing 209 for five. Karthik and Sharma treated the opposition bowlers with disdain as both helped Mumbai recover from two early jolts at the Wankhede Stadium.

Karthik continued his rich vein of form as he hit 14 fours and two sixes in his aggressive knock while Sharma too played his role to perfection, hitting an unconquered 50-ball 74 to take the team's total past 200-run mark.
