Srikakulam: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy made it clear that the poor man's ideas were the Congress party's programmes. He was addressing at a public meeting after inaugurating the Amma Hastam programme in the district.

The Rs 1-a-kg-rice scheme has benefitted 2.25 crore families with 7.5 cr people, in the State. So it was planned to extend nutritious food and nine essential goods at the least price through the Amma Hastam programme, he said. Even though the market prices of these goods may increase during the year, they will be distributed at the same rate, he added.

Opposition party leaders, especially TDP president Chandrababu Naidu has described this as 'Mondi Hastam', he informed. However, this criticism has been brushed aside in view of the welfare of the people, he added. Soon the public citizen charter will be introduced in the Mee Seva programme so as to make the officials more responsible, he said.

The chief minister announced that funds for the modernisation of Vamsadhara main canal will be sanctioned. He also announced a degree college for Tekkali and Rs 50 lakh for Ambedkar building among other things.

Earlier, the chief minister laid foundation stones for the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at Tekkali in the district on Tuesday. He addressed the gathering on this occasion, at the Tekkali Government Degree College grounds. Minister of State for IT and Communications Dr Killi Kruparani presided over the function.

He also laid foundation stones for the polytenic colleges to come up in Tekkali and Seethampeta mandals. A He said that 50 per cent reservations will be provided for women in the local body elections.

PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana said that Mr Chandrababu is misleading the people through his padayatra. Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasad Rao said that 22.5 lakh acres are being irrigated under Vamsadhara project and he urged the CM to facilitate the Thotapalli and another reservoir. On this occasion, Minister for Civil Supplies Sreedhar Babu said that rice is being secured at a cost of Rs 28 a kg and distributed at Rs 1 a kg. With the implementation of Amma Hastam programme, the government has to bear Rs 660 cr burden, he said.

Minister for Medical and Health Kondru Murali Mohan, Minister for Forests Satrucherla Vijayaramaraju, MLAs and other leaders from the district participated.
