Sangareddy (Medak): Polls to choose 45 of the 46 mandal parishad presidents in Medak district concluded on Friday, barring that of Sadashivpet whose coopted member’s application was rejected because of his three children. Consequently the election was postponed.

The TRS won the maximum of 29 MPP chief posts, followed by the Congress which won 15 mandals, although it had majority in 20. The TDP was reduced to only one MPP. The Congress has won 291 of the 685 MPTC seats in the district while TRS finished second with 271 MPTCs and the TDP bagged 90.

Minister T Harish Rao played his part in ‘Operation Aakarsh’ well, inducing leaders of other parties into the pink party. The TRS legislators from the district, including S Ramalinga Reddy, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Chinta Prabhakar, Madan Reddy, Mahipal Reddy too had a big hand in ensuring the party win.

Surprisingly in Gajwel constituency, represented by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao TRS could win the least number of MPTCs. Yet it finished successful in four of the six mandals. The pink party held sway in Siddipet, Medak, Narsapur, Dubbak, Gajwel, Patancheru constituencies, while the Congress did well in Andole and Zaheerabad segments represented by former deputy CM Damodar C Rajanarasimha and Dr. J Geeta Reddy respectively. TDP has won in Toopran mandal parishad.
During elections, the activists of Congress, TRS and TDP clashed and police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse clashing groups. They deployed security at various party offices.
