Warangal: Activists of different student organisations have resorted to a flash protest at Kakatiya University examination branch here on Friday following postponement of degree distance mode examinations.

The officials of the university have indefinitely deferred the conduct of degree examinations for the courses offered by School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE). It was said that the question papers of Telugu and Sanskrit papers scheduled to be held on Friday were leaked.

The leakage of question papers has allegedly taken place in Hyderabad through one of the SDLCE study centre operated by private persons. On learning the news the university controller of examinations Prof M V Ranga Rao has announced the postponement of the examinations.

Agitated at the sudden development, the students and activists of Telangana Rashtra Samithi student’s wing, Progressive Democratic Students Union, Telangana Vidyarthi Parishad, All India Students Federation have staged a demonstration on the campus. They raised slogans against the negligent attitude of the university authorities and demanded to resume the conduct of examinations with immediate effect.

Speaking to press persons, TRSV activist Byrapaka Prashanth recalled that the examinations were actually scheduled to be held a couple of months ago. After repeated postponements they started a couple of days ago on July 16.

But now again deferring the examinations would have negative impact on the students. The officials should make arrangements for the conduct of remaining examinations and reschedule the exams of leaked subjects. The protesting students have also demanded the university authorities to scrap the permissions given to private study centres to offer the SDLCE courses and alleged that those running the study centres were resorting to illegal practices.

Neither the in-charge vice-chancellor Vikas Raj nor the registrar Prof K Sayulu was available to lodge a complaint, Prashanth said. On the other hand the controller of examinations Prof Ranga Rao said an inquiry was ordered to probe the leakage of question papers. Soon a revised schedule of examinations would be announced.
