Karimnagar: Cases of viral fevers have become rampant in Karimnagar district during the past two weeks.
Six deaths due to viral fevers were reported at various places in the district on Thursday. Right from the district headquarters to remote villages, people are streaming into hospitals seeking treatment for viral fevers.
As many as 20 deaths were reported due to viral fevers at Korutla during the past 15 days.

There are also a few cases of suspected dengue. The officials of the Medical and Health Department, however, contended that currently only three patients were undergoing treatment for dengue at different places in the district. But according to doctors working in private hospitals in the district, about 40 cases of dengue were reported in the district so far this year.

Viral fevers are rampant in villages. At least one case is reported in each family.

People of different age groups are getting afflicted by viral fevers.

Change in weather conditions and lack of proper sanitary conditions seem to be contributing to outbreak of viral fevers.


It is estimated that over two lakh people suffered from viral fevers in the district this year till now. The district recorded 93 deaths. There are complaints that private hospitals have been fleecing patients for treatment of viral fevers.

Private nursing homes are demanding Rs 30,000 for treatment of children with viral fever. At some places, people are forced to seek help from the RMPs.

People are demanding that the Medical and Health Department focus on measures to prevent fevers.

In a bid to create awareness among people on maintaining hygienic conditions, District Collector M Veera Brahmaiah is conducting inspection at different places where the fevers are rampant and the tribal areas.
