Hyderabad: Telangana Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy on Saturday launched 22 ‘Interceptor Vehicles for Armed Intervention’ in the areas under Cyberabad Commissionerate limits.

These vehicles will be stationed at important strategic locations in the city equipped with an armed component of four personnel with bullet proof jackets and will be on duty round-the-clock and will have high-tech communication equipments.

Each law and order division amongst the 11 divisions, under Cyberabad would have two vehicles each. Last month the Minister had launched 17 vehicles for Hyderabad Commissionerate, in the first phase. Speaking on the occasion, Narasimha Reddy said the city, known for its Information Technology, should reflect its progress and development through effective policing that should be best in the country. While referring to the increased incidents of chain snatchings, he asked the officials to boost the image of the city by acting tough against the offenders. He assured that there would be no dearth of funds for the department in dealing with anti-social elements.

The Home Minister assured that the government would reduce the pressure on policemen by filling up the vacant positions in the department.

He also maintained that the government was studying the possibility of providing weekly offs to the staff, which would be implemented soon. The launch programme was attended by Hyderabad Police Commissioner, M Mahender Reddy, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand and several other higher officials.
